Robert Frost

Robert Frost attended both Dartmouth and Harvard but never earned a formal degree. I thought this was interesting because he is considered one of the greatest poets of our time, but doesn't have a college degree and both of his parents were teachers so I would assume they valued education. Obviously he is very smart though to be admitted to both of these institutions. He has won four Pulitzer Prizes along with numerous other awards. He suffered many losses in his life ( his sister, two children, and wife) and it greatly reflects in his works around this time, such as "The Mending Wall" and "Hyla Brook." He used nature in a lot of his poems including the one we were assigned, "The Road Not Taken." I think it's about choice and how we will always have decisions to make. While the decisions may be hard, we have to choose what is best for us, even it is the road less traveled. Poeple should care less about what others think and more about what is best for them, even if no one else is doing it. Frost did this when he dropped out of school. I think it would be safe to assume his family valued the importance of education, as his parents were both teachers, and he dropped out of college becaue he wasn't enjoying it. Many people would say he was stupid for leaving such a prestigious university, but it wasn't working for him so he left, and took the road not taken.
